OUR SINCERE CONDOLENCES to Caroline (Steven) Koclanes, whose beloved
father fell asleep in the Lord this past week.
May the Lord grant the family comfort and may his memory be eternal. +
PLEASE NOTE – “VASILIKO” NEEDED FOR THE FEAST DAY OF THE HOLY CROSS
– On
Sunday, September 14th, we will celebrate the Feast Day of the Holy
Cross. As is the custom, we will
need VASILIKO (Sweet Basil)
for the Service, to be blessed and distributed following services.
If you have grown VASILIKO
at your homes, please bring it to the Church on Friday, September 12th
by 3:00 p.m. Thank you and God
bless you! +
DUE TO YOUR GENEROSITY,
we were able to give Marian Janowski, our janitor whose daughter fell asleep in
the Lord, the amount of $1,615.00 we collected from the tray that was passed.
This helped to defray some of the cost of his travel to Poland.
God bless you for your thoughtfulness and generosity.
STEWARDSHIP
ANNOUNCEMENTS +
OUR
CALL TO CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP! At
the request and direction of our last General Assembly meeting, all
current Ascension Stewards are asked to increase their 2008 stewardship pledges
by at least 10%, if at all possible, to assist us in covering the
increase in our Archdiocesan assessment. Please
notify Father Jim or Kay James at the Church Office of your intention regarding
an increase in your pledge so we can adjust our records. PARISH
MINISTRY NEWS AND UPDATES +
OUR ANNUAL PARISH MINISTRIES FAIR will
again take place today, following the Divine Liturgy.
Stations have been set up for you to browse and learn about the various
ministries of our Parish. Representatives of each group will be available for you to
meet, giving you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding any
and all of the ministries. Please
also sign up to help with our RUMMAGE SALE and join your fellow
parishioners as a Capital Campaign AMBASSADOR.
+
CATECHISM INSTRUCTION FOR THOSE SEEKING CHRISMATION will
begin this Fall. If you or anyone
you know is interested in studying the Orthodox Faith, please have them contact
Father Jim through the Church Office. +
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ALL BAPTISMS AND WEDDINGS MUST BE CLEARED THROUGH
THE CHURCH OFFICE PRIOR TO SETTING YOUR DATE. Conflicts
that may arise in our ecclesiastical calendar or Father Jim’s schedule
may cause a conflict in setting the date you want.
Please call the Church Office early to schedule a Sacrament so no
conflicts arise. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. +
COME VISIT OUR BOOKSTORE ON SUNDAYS AFTER CHURCH OR DURING THE WEEK – We
have a wonderful variety of books and tremendous inventory of holy icons for you
to choose from. If you cannot find what you are looking for, just ask and we
will be more than happy to order whatever you need.
We currently have “quick lite” charcoal for your censer. +
THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD “ESTATE AND RUMMAGE SALE”
will take place on Friday, September 12th
and Saturday, September 13th from 10:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.
Volunteers are needed! Please
call Vicki Douvlis (847) 951-3089 to get on the volunteer list.
“DROP OFF” REMINDER: Please
drop off your gently used items for the Estate and Rummage Sale on Saturday,
August 30th or Saturday, September 6th from 10:00 a.m.
until 2:00 p.m. Drop off at the
house next door to Church – NOT AT THE CHURCH.
A list of items being accepted can be found in the Fellowship Hall. In advance, we sincerely thank you for your support.
+
OPERATION SUPPORT OUR TROOPS –
Because of the tremendous success we had with this project, it will be an on-going
project. A collection box for new items will be in the hallway by
the front classroom. If you have
items that can be used by our troops, please bring them in. We will be taking these items at the end of each month to
the local distribution center in Libertyville.
Thanks for your continued support. +
COFFEE HOUR HOSTS –
We still need some hosts for the Coffee Hour during
the upcoming months. Please put your name on the list located by the kitchen.
Just keep everything simple – it’s better to have coffee and a cookie
or a donut hole and socialize with your friends after the Divine Liturgy, than
not having anything at all! Dates that are still available are: September 14th,
28th, October 5th, 12th, 26th, and,
of course the months of November and December.
+
CHOIR MEMBERS
– Please note that Choir Rehearsals begin on Wednesday, September 3rd
at 7:00 p.m. This is a very
important rehearsal, due to the Feast of the Elevation of the Holy Cross.
Make EVERY effort to attend and be on time.

it is imperative for you to attend this meeting.
We look forward to being with you on the 8th.
+
