What is Philoptochos?
Philoptochos is the duly accredited international philanthropic organization of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

What are the aims and purposes of Philoptochos?
The essence of our Philoptochos Society is philanthropy, the foundation for the loving care of human suffering.
How is Philoptochos organized?
Philoptochos functions from an administrative and membership basis on three levels, as follows:
- The National Board
- The Metropolis Board of each Metropolis
- The Philoptochos Chapter of each Parish
Each local chapter is a member of both the Metropolitan and National Philoptochos organizations.
How does Philoptochos compare in size with other Christian philanthropic organizations?
The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society operating at National, Diocesan and local levels is the largest Christian philanthropic organization in America.
How long is the Boards term of office?
Board members are elected to serve for two years. No elected officer can be elected to the same office for more than two consecutive terms.
Who should join Philoptochos?
Women over the age of 18 are eligible to become a member of Philoptochos. Traditionally Philoptochos was open to women only; now Philoptochos is open to both men and women. However, only women may vote.
Can I become a member of Ascension Philoptochos even though I am a steward in another parish?
Ideally, you should to become a member of the Philoptochos Chapter of the parish to which you belong.
Do I have to make an annual stewardship contribution to be a member of Ascension Philoptochos?
Members make an annual free will stewardship contribution to Ascension Philoptochos at the beginning of each calendar year or when they join the Ascension parish. Members contribute according to their resources and faithfulness and willingness to give. All contributions go towards our operating budget.

You can become a member of Philoptochos by attending one of our meetings, by talking with one of the Board members, or by calling the Church Office at (847) 482-1200.
What is expected of me as a Philoptochos member?
We understand that our Parish members, especially those with young families, have many commitments. You can be as involved in Philoptochos as you wish. You can become a Philoptochos steward only, or you can attend our monthly meetings and/or you can be involved in Philoptochos activities and programs based on your interests and availability. Once you become a member, you will be on our mailing list and telephone tree. Both these communication vehicles are designed to keep you informed and involved to the extent you wish to be involved.
When and where does the Ascension Philoptochos meet?
General meetings are usually held on Thursdays at the Church. Please consult the Philoptochos Calendar of Events for more information.
