This new ministry at Ascension teaches traditional Orthodox Ecclesiastical music to people who have a basic level of experience in singing.  Classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced students take place on Saturdays in Ascension's Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m., immediately following Vespers.   Fall classes for Advanced and intermediate level students begin September 26, 2020;  the Beginner Class commences on October 3rd. The course is free.  For more information, contact Dr. Sotiri Vasilopoulos or Mrs. Georgia Vasilopoulos at svasilop@hotmail.com.

Classes will meet in the fellowship hall of the church and will follow all safety protocols of wearing masks and phsyical distancing.  Masks will not be worn while chanting.  The shorter duration of class time respects the safety measures currently in place to keep members participating in this ministry safe.

Since each Byzantine Music class builds on the one prior to it, registration for beginners will close on October 3, 2020, in order to preserve the students' progression in this ministry.

The mission of Byzantine chant and Byzantine art in general is to raise the thoughts and emotions of christians from the realm of the mundane to that of the spiritual.  Click HERE to read about the history of Romaic or Byzantine Music!
