FEED THE HUNGRY:  August 18, 2020
“Feed the Hungry” Rescheduled with Social Distancing – The Feed the Hungry program has been rescheduled for Tuesday, August 18. Brown bag lunches will be assembled and distributed to 130+ hungry and in many cases, homeless, in the parking lot of the Annunciation Cathedral in the city.  We would like to put together a healthy meal and include other necessities if possible. Due to social distancing requirements, our participation will be limited to a few people and all items must be purchased (vs. donated).  If you would like to make a monetary donation to help cover the cost of purchasing items included in the bag, please make checks payable to Ascension Philoptochos and mail to Church.  Please include “Feeding Program” in the memo line.  For questions or more information, please contact Kathie Rutkowski, Feeding Programs Chairperson, at


National Philoptochos VIRTUAL Biennial Convention – August 21 & 22:  The Philoptochos National meeting has been rescheduled to a virtualevent, and registration is open! Metropolis VIRTUAL Luncheon Fundraiser – September 19:  The annual Metropolis Fall Fundraiser (in lieu of the luncheon) will be a virtual event live streamed from the Iakovos Retreat Center.  Scatter Kindnessis this year’s theme, which will take place from noon - 1:30pm.  Virtual ticket reservations, raffle tickets and sponsorships are available for those interested in participating. Though this year’s event will be quite different, the commitment to benefit charities remains the same. “No Kid Hungry”, the Iakovos Retreat Center and Metropolis of Chicago Philoptochos Endeavors will be the recipients of this year’s charitable giving. 


Ascension 1stWomen’s Retreat - Saturday, October 3.  The theme will be A Life Beyond Amazing:  Understanding the Gifts and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.  Please save the date and stay tuned for additional details.



Thank you to all who sewed masks and made donations to support the Philoptochos Masks Matter Campaign!  Ascension sewers made over 500 masks to donate to this humanitarian aid effort.  A special thank you to all of our sewers, especially to Arianna Stevens who make 238 masks, and to Maria Lampros for leading this campaign!
