YOUTH PROGRAM

TUESDAY EVENING CLASSES FOR CHILDREN AGES 4-15

Welcome to the new academic year (September 2025 – May 2026) of Ascension's Greek School program. The classes meet on Tuesday evenings from 5 – 7:00 pm for children ages 4 to 15. Youth Greek School for 2025-2026 will begin on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Open House and Ice Cream Social will take place from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9th.

Ascension Greek School’s mission is to help students of Greek and non-Greek ancestry learn the Greek language and gain a better understanding of Greek culture, history, and Greek Orthodox faith. We believe in the benefits of bilingualism in everyday learning and give our students the opportunity to grow their speaking skills through dialogue and immersion.

Classes are structured according to thematic units and incorporate reference to Greek-orthodox traditions to help students expand their vocabulary on a variety of topics and improve their everyday communication.
Classes feature a variety of group activities, including educational games, traditional stories, and Greek songs.
Printed material is provided for all students (Printed Booklets for Preschool, Kindergarten, 1^st & 2^nd Grade students, and Book KLIK sta Ellinika A1 for kids (part A&B) for 3^rd to 6^th Grade students.
All our students have access to Ellinopoula digital platform for supplementary online learning.
Every two weeks students participate in a Greek dance class.
Upper-level students who wish to participate in Ellinomatheia A1 exams receive additional practice.

TUITION & REGISTRATION

Tuition Fees: $900 for one student ($800 tuition/$100 material fee); $1,800 for two students; $2,610 for three students (3rd student of the family receives 10% off). In case of family economic hardship, please contact Fr. Sotirios.

PROGRAM FOR ADULTS/ADOLESCENTS

THURSDAY EVENING GREEK CLASSES FOR ADULTS/ADOLESCENTS

Welcome to the new academic year 2025-2026 of Ascension's Greek School program for Adults and Adolescents. Adult / Adolescent Greek School for 2025-2026 will begin on Thursday, September 18, 2025 with a hybrid offering of in-person classes and Zoom. Open House will take place on Thursday, September 11th at 7 p.m.

The classes meet on Thursdays and are offered in two semesters (15 weeks each semester):

-- 1st Semester (9/18/25 - 1/22/26)
-- 2nd Semester (2/5/26 - 5/28/26)

There are two levels: (1) Beginners / Advanced Beginners (Thursday, 6:15-7:30 PM); and (2) Intermediate / Advanced (Thursday, 7:45-9:00 PM)

This is a program for those who want to learn or improve their Greek.
This program is hybrid. All classes are taught simultaneously in-person and via Zoom for remote learners. All students can make progress in Greek in a positive and enjoyable environment and a high level of interaction is sustained for both in-person and remote participants.
The focus is on conversational modern Greek and all students are involved in conversation in a variety of social situations in a friendly atmosphere using pictures, role play, hands-on activities and games.
The classes are structured according to thematic units and incorporate reference to Greek Orthodox traditions, Greek lifestyle, geography of Greece, Greek news and Greek songs.
The teaching material is provided in digital form at no additional cost. Additional online material will be provided for those who wish to have extra practice at home.

Open House for 1st semester: Thursday, September 11th, 2025 from 7 - 8 p.m.
Open House for 2nd semester: Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 7:00 p.m.

TUITION & REGISTRATION

Tuition Fees: $400.00 per semester

Youth Greek School News

Honorary Distinction for our Greek School

In March 2025, the Greek Consulate of Chicago awarded the Ascension Greek School with an honorary distinction on the Greek National Anniversary of March 25, 2025. At the ceremony, Mrs. Sophia Metropulos received the plaque on behalf of our Greek School teachers, in recognition of their valuable contribution to spreading the Greek language and culture. Our school is a living cell of our community, a light of hope and continuity of our culture in the diaspora. We thank our teachers for their dedication in cultivating the Greek language and instilling the values of Hellenism and Greek-Orthodox traditions in our students.
