GREEK INDEPENDENCE DAY BICENTENNIAL PROGRAM
2021 marked the bicentennial anniversary of the onset of the Greek revolution of 1821 and the war of Independence. Two hundred years have passed from that day of Annunciation when the faithful and brave heroes of 1821 chose to start the revolution against their oppressors. They swore with their swords raised “Ελευθερια η Θανατος” (Freedom or Death) and started the fight against the Ottomans. Many of them sacrificed their lives for their faith and for the freedom of their motherland (“για του Χριστου την πιστη την αγια και της πατριδος την ελευθερια”). Because of their brave fight and sacrifices, an independent Greek nation was established 9 years later. Let us honor all the immortal Greek heroes of 1821, be inspired by their deeds and values, and try to be worthy descendants of those brave ancestors.
With pride for their Greek origin, the students of Ascension Youth Greek School performed poems and songs to commemorate this historic day and bicentennial anniversary. Please click THIS link to view a video of their performance!
